Web Application

Hughes Medical Centre

Covid Booking Portal

Problem
The Hughes Medical Centre team needed a way to allow customers to book COVID-19 tests online. They also needed the solution that allowed them to send out results in a more streamlined and efficient way than their current process.

Solution
A modern web application that features a full booking process with a custom payment gateway for the 4Cs merchant. It also features processing appointments, entering and sending out of results, including the generation of a COVID-19 certificate which is sent to customers via email.

Property Tax Payment Portal

Problem
Historically the relatively large diaspora population of Montserrat had no convenient ways to pay their property taxes. This issue was exacerbated by the departure of The Bank of Canada, and even further with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Solution
A modern and easy-to-use web application that allows property owners to pay their taxes via a custom payment gateway. MCRS Inland Revenue Department staff can monitor property tax payments and Treasury Department staff can view receipts for their purposes.

Plymouth Recreation Project

Project Description
The Plymouth Recreation Project is an immersive virtual reality experience where users are transported back in time to the city of Plymouth, Montserrat, befor all of the volcanic activities that buried it.

This project was launched to the public in March, 2018, and was extremely well received. Younger Montserratians, born after the city was buried, learned more about Montserrat’s past and the activities that took place in Plymouth. Older folks expressed nostalgia while experiencing the project – some with laughs and giggles remembering the good times they had in the city, and others with tears remembering what was lost.

Government of Montserrat

Tenders.ms

Problem
The Government of Montserrat makes use of mytenders.co.uk to allow bidders to respond to their tenders. A locally developed and maintained system would give the government greater flexibility and control of the process.

Solution
A functional and responsive web application which allows GOM procurement staff to make tenders, notices, and other docuements available to the public. The application is also a portal where persons can apply for bids and upload their relevant documents. The bids can then be processed using the system and bidders are alerted of the income of their bids.

Tax Database

Problem
The Montserrat Customs and Revenue Service recently had responsibilities for Bank Interest Levies, Insurance Levies and Hotel Taxes added to their portfolio. With this development, the department required an application which allowed them to add and manage entities and their payments towards these levies and taxes.

Solution
A simple and modern web application which allows users to add insurance, bank, and hotel entities and their details. The application also allows users to record the payments that each entity makes with supporting documents.

Plant Care Robot

Project Description
This project encompasses  3 main components: a Rapberry Pi Robot, an Android application, and a Flask server which was deployed on the robot.

The Raspberry Pi robot is augmented with different hardware parts which allows it to detect water in a reservoir, detect soil moisture, and pump water from a reservoir. The pump mechanism comprised of a four way relay which allowed four pumps to run.  The robot also featured various status lights to give users feedback. The robot was programmed in Python.

The Android application was developed in Android Studio and communicated with the robot via a Flask server. The application used APIs to collect weather information to inform users of expected weather conditions. The app also showed users the status of different parts of the robot’s operations, such as when plants were last watered, the current water availability in the reserviour and the current soil moisture in the plants’ surroundings.

This project was done as a part of the University of Birmingham Master’s programme.

Summer Camp 2018

Project Description
This summer camp split a group of secondary school students into 3 groups, a 3D modeling group, an environment design group and a programming group. These students worked to emulate a real video game studio, where each team worked on different aspects of projects.

The 3D modeling group were taught how to use the 3D modeling software Blender. The environment design group were taught Unreal Engine and the programming group were taught C++ within Unreal Engine.

The groups were able collaborate to create two different video games using the skills that they learnt.

Summer Camp 2020

Project Description
Secondary school aged youth were taught how to put together and program robotic parts using the Raspberry Pi. The students were then taught programming and concepts of machine learning and completed several exercises on the topic.

The final project involved students building a robotics system which differentiated Skittle candies by colour and did appropriate actions. Students sketched the design of their systems and built them using cardboard and 3D printed parts.
